Behind the Veil: Donuts and I Do’s

April 12, 2018

Fun doesn’t even begin to describe Mollie and Ben’s big day. With a cup of summer brew in hand, perfect weather, wedding donuts for dessert, and friends and family all around- what could be better?

The ceremony was held at her in-laws home is Hastings, Nebraska. A short ceremony, with only the bridal party and groomsmen and family in attendance, was then followed by drinks and o’dourves. After that, it was time for some party bus fun! They all rode around town to get snapshots at all their favorite local spots before joining the rest of their guests at the reception.

Unlike the ceremony, the reception had A LOT of people in attendance (around 450 to be exact). There was donuts, cookies, a food truck, and a live band all at her now-husbands family “shop.” It is a big, spacious steel building that was decorated with lights and curtains, along with all the happy people celebrating!

When it came to finding her dream gown, after being undecided on a lot of factors, it just came down to that “This is it” feeling, well, and tears of joy of course.

FFKC: Tell us how you decided on your gown?

Mollie: It is SO hard picking a gown! You go in telling yourself you don’t want tight fitted, strapless, or lace, but that’s the only thing you end up liking. I wanted something simple and me. I tried on SO many gowns that I loved, but it wasn’t me. When I was at Fabulous Frocks KC, I couldn’t stop looking at this gown. I tried it on, Angela put a belt with it, I loved it but set it aside and kept trying others on. I narrowed it down to two. I wanted to try on the gown I ended up with, and when Angela paired a veil with it – that is what sold me. It just felt right, looked right, it was ME! I cried, my mom cried, I may be crying now! Haha!

FFKC: What advice would you give to brides now that you have made it to the other side of your wedding day?

Mollie: First, I would say is that it is YOUR wedding, do what you want. I’m sure you’ve been told this multiple times but it is SO true! This day, your day, only happens once (hopefully) and by the end of it, you’re regretting not doing something you so badly wanted, it’s going to stick with you forever.

Second, Step away from planning, have a glass of wine, and relax for a bit- it is totally ok to take a day or two off from planning, no matter where you’re at in it.

Lastly, include your fiancè in the planning – he knows you the best and it’s his day too.
