I’m Engaged, Now What?

December 2, 2017

As engagement season is approaching, you may already have ideas of your wedding swirling around you. What date should we choose? Where will we get married? Will the reception be the same as the ceremony? How many people do we want to have? These are just a few of the many decisions you will have to make. But, we are here to get you started! Here are just a few ideas to help you begin planning the day you will cherish forever!

Date?

First and foremost, you will need to select your wedding date. This will be the first thing your potential venues, wedding planner, photographer, and so many other people will need to know. If you can be flexible on the date, you will have several more options to choose from when it comes to venues. You also want to make sure to check with the people closest to you and your fiancé to make sure that the date is not a conflict.

Wedding Planner?

There are several options when it comes to a wedding planner. You can have a full-service, month-of, weekend, or day-of planner. You can select how much assistance you want and the costs will vary between the amount of time involved and the planner you select. There is always the option to plan the wedding yourself, however, you might want to consider having at least a day-of planner so you don’t have to run around checking on vendors while you should be getting your hair and makeup done. No matter the level of planner you choose, the goal is to make the day as stress-free as possible. You will want to look back at your wedding full of joy and happiness!

Venue?

More times than not, the couple gets married where the bride is from. However, that is not a rule and it is actually getting more common for the couple to get married where neither of them are from! The time of year is definitely something to keep in mind when selecting the venue. If you loved the look of an outdoor garden wedding, but your date is in February, you may have some freezing guests or want to consider tents with heaters. It is always special and more memorable to see the couple reflected in the venue. For example, if you both love to hike, see if you can find a beautiful mountain top venue! No matter the location you decide on, make sure they have all the necessary amenities you want for the wedding day or are able to have them brought on-site (get ready spots, heaters, tents, full kitchen for caterer, etc).

Dress?

Of course, this is our favorite part! Your gown will set the tone for the rest of the wedding. Look online or Pinterest for styles, silhouettes, and fabrics you like. Schedule between 1-3 appointments based on research and reviews. You can always schedule more if you need to, but keep an open mind because your gown could be at the first shop and even the first one you put on! Remember to bring a reasonable number of guests with you whose opinions mean the most. It is easy to get overwhelmed trying to listen to everyone’s opinions on top of trying to filter through your own thoughts. Have fun with it, and remember to celebrate when you find the perfect gown!

Now that you have the big stuff covered, things will start to fall in to place! You can select your photographer, the food, the decorations, and so much more. Just take everything one day at a time. There will be countless decisions along the way, but with each one, you and your fiancé will come together to create the perfect day! Remember to enjoy the process together – this is a stage in your relationship you only get to do once! ♥
