A beautiful bride, and an unforgettable time! We recently caught up with real bride Kaitlyn to get all the details about her special day! Kaitlyn’s husband’s name is Jake. They met through a mutual friend in Lawrence while she was still in college and he had just graduated. She said: “I wasn’t looking for a relationship at that time, but sometimes God brings the people you need when you least expect it.”
Kaitlyn and Jake tied the knot on September 18th, 2020! Kaitlyn really wanted a destination wedding because she liked the intimacy of them, while Jake wanted to have a wedding at home so all of his friends and family could attend, so they mixed the two! We had a private ceremony with just family and a few close friends and then had a bigger reception later that day! Kaitlyn described it as: “It was perfect. I was really wanting something classy, romantic, airy, and just overall beautiful (duh!).”
When asking Kaitlyn her favorite memory of her and Jake’s day, she said: “My favorite memory from our day was the first look. I know some people are really against them or they want that initial shock from their fiance, but you still get the wow factor. For Jake and I, we wrote our own vows. The first look was a time where we could be alone and read them to one another (it also helped because the first time through we were sobbing). It helped calm our nerves to see each other before. Yes, he still cried when I walked down the aisle.”
Kaitlyn wore a stunning fit-to-flare Zavana gown on her wedding day! We asked Kaitlyn how she knew it was the gown for her, and she described the experience as: “My wonderful consultant, Addie, helped me find the perfect dress. It was one of her favorites in the shop at the time and it really had everything I was looking for in a dress. I’m not a super emotional person so I always knew I wouldn’t cry when I put on THE gown, but it felt different. I was happier in that dress compared to the others. I felt confident in it, and that’s the important part. It helped that my friends and step mom cried though, then it sealed the deal.”
Kaitlyn said her advice would be “Don’t sweat the small stuff”. She said there will be things that don’t pan out exactly how you pictured and THAT’S OKAY! The most important thing to remember is that you’re marrying the love of your life, and that piece will outshine anything that doesn’t go as planned. Something else she recommended is doing a ‘last dance’. She explained at her wedding while everyone was getting ready for a sparkler exit, they took a moment where it was just them in their reception space, and they soaked in the rush of the day. It’s a great way to have a moment of privacy before heading out into your new life as a married couple.
The lovely couple found it important to honor their loved ones during their wedding. Their wedding incorporated many sentimental pieces from their family. Jake’s parents and his grandparents have passed away, while Kaitlyn also lost her mom and paternal grandparents as well as maternal grandmother. They wanted to find ways to honor them and to be able to feel their presence. Kaitlyn said: “All of my jewelry was either my mothers or my grandmothers. The veil was my grandmother who was married to my grandfather for over 50 years before she passed. We set up a memory table that highlighted our loved ones. It was the little things that made the difference for us. We could just feel all of them during the day.”
