Happy Tuesday! We recently caught up with our real bride, Sophie! Sophie and her husband, Joel, are high school sweethearts who started dating after a romantic homecoming proposal at her tennis match – um CUTE?! They have been together for 8 years and tied the knot in September of 2021.

We asked our real bride Sophie to describe her big day for us: “My vision for Joel and I’s wedding was to be a timeless, modern, city wedding. I wanted lots of flowers around the venue and for it to have romantic vibes with lots of candles. Our venue looked over the whole city so our backdrop was amazing.”

Sophie’s Dress

Sophie wore a beautiful aline gown by Cizzy Bridal that had a fuller skirt perfect for dancing the night away, complete with unique detailing throughout the bodice. “When I was looking for my wedding dress, I knew that I wanted it to be something classic while also being unique. I tried on multiple dresses, as well as went to multiple shops in KC, and never really had a moment like I did until I was at Fabulous Frocks. My dress made me feel confident, which was really important to me. It looked like I was almost floating when I would walk in the dress because of the shimmer and train, that was one of my favorite things. I would give anything to re-wear the dress.”

Special Memories from our Real Bride

“I think my favorite memory of the day was our first look. We had our first look before the ceremony which I really liked because Joel and I both were nervous to see each other. I was so excited for him to see my dress and it seemed like once we saw each other the whole day would feel so real. The first look was so special and we were able to just take in all that was going on. We had a moment to ourselves and it is something that I will always remember.

I also surprised Joel with with KC Wolf at our wedding. We are both born and raised KC natives and love the Chiefs, so what better gift to give your groom? He was completely shocked and still talks about how awesome it was. I would recommend it for any die-hard Chiefs fans. It will make your reception be a hit without fail!”

Advice from our Real Bride

“My advice for future brides would be to never forget why you’re having this big day! It is because you and your soon-to-be spouse love each other and want to spend the rest of your lives together. I know it sounds silly, but I think planning can get so overwhelming and out of control that it can be easy to lose sight of what the day is truly about. So often I found myself wanting to make sure that everyone had fun and wanted it to be unlike any other wedding anyone had been to and it was oftentimes unrealistic. Focus on making the big day about you and your spouse and the rest will fall into place.”

Special Details from our Real Bride

Sophie had a few sentimental details to help make her day extra special. “Instead of doing something blue, I chose to do something pink because that’s my favorite color! I wore blush shoes and I absolutely loved them.

My sister, Abbie, is also a Fab Frocks Bride, and I actually wore the same belt that she did on her wedding day that she got from Fabulous Frocks, that was my something borrowed. I do have to mention my veil… It wasn’t ‘sentimental’ but it definitely was something I fell in love with the second I saw it at your store. I felt like it was so unique, yet timeless. It tied together my whole entire look and I will cherish it forever. Hopefully my daughters will wear it some day :)”
