Real Bride: Sophie’s December Wedding

June 28, 2024

Hi Brides! We are honored and excited to share the details of Sophie’s December wedding!

The Details

Sophie and Aidan were married in mid December at Scarritt Bennett in Nashville, Tennessee.

Scarritt Bennett has always been a place of refuge for me in the hustle and bustle of Nashville and was
where I used to go and pray after a hard day at work and on walks,” Sophie shared. “Also, it is where Aidan proposed to me, so it was so special to enter marriage at such a significant place for us!”

The bridal party got ready at Sophie’s aunts house before the December wedding. While there, they ate various treats from The Picnic Cafe and toasted champagne to start the day. “It was so special to get ready all together in a home and to have a relaxed morning before the hustle and bustle of the day!” Sophie said. One10 Beauty performed hair and makeup for the day.

Sophie described the December wedding as Christ-centered, intimate, and celebratory! The ceremony took place at The Wightman Chapel at Scarritt Bennett.

The Ceremony

The bride said that a focus of the ceremony and wedding weekend was the importance of the couple’s faith, as well as spending time with family and friends.

“Our ceremony was officiated by Gage Arnold, a family friend, and the Director of Youth Programming at First Presbyterian Church of Nashville,” Sophie shared. “We were surrounded by friends and family and Gage incorporated worship and having our groomsmen and bridesmaids pray over us, which was so special to us.”

Sophie shared that the couple loved the beautiful altar at Scarritt Bennett. “LMA Designs highlighted that beauty with the cascading greenery, as well as the endless candles throughout the greenery and altar, setting the background for the intimate ceremony.”

LMA Designs also created the bridal bouquet and bridesmaids bouquet. The bridesmaids wore black gowns, while the groomsmen wore black suits. Lacey Hamilton with Sutlan and Co. planned the December wedding. Sydney Starling was the videographer for the day.

Meanwhile, pianist Barny Robertson and cellist Becca Bradley performed music at the December wedding!

“Growing up, my mom dedicated the song and verse titled “The Blessing” to me and that became such an important song in my life,” Sophie shared. “I always envisioned it playing at my wedding and Becca and Barny were able to make that dream a reality.”

Additionally, Gipe Photography photographed the day.

“I love Tyler and his wife’s style of photography!” Sophie said. “Aidan and I are not people who like to pose for pictures, and so Tyler was able to capture our day and genuine, unfiltered moments without having to pose.”

Tyler and his team photographed both Sophie and Aidan’s wedding day, as well as their engagement photos! “Tyler and team captured Aidan and I, our love for each other, and our love of our people perfectly!”

The Dress

Sophie came to Fabulous Frocks last March. She came to the boutique with the intention of looking at dresses and to get an idea of the styles that she liked.

“I did not expect that I would be finding my dress at the first bridal shop I went to!” Sophie said.

Sophie initially envisioned a halter neck gown or a modern, abstract style. “I knew I did not want lace!”

Sophie’s consultant pulled a strapless Anne Barge fit to flare as an option for the bride. The gown featured a sweetheart neckline with modern seams on the bodice. “Once I tried that dress on, I compared every other dress to it and knew I had found my dress!” Sophie shared. “It was the third dress out of five that I tried on.”

Sophie said yes to Eiffel by Anne Barge. Sophie wore her grandmother’s earrings and her mother’s veil for her something borrowed! “It tied into the celebration of those who built me into the woman I am today,” she said.

“I loved my experience at Fabulous Frocks and Rachel was the best!” Sophie shared of her experience. “She helped make it fun, comfortable, and I don’t think I would have found my dress if it weren’t for her and her taking the time to listen to my vision! I can’t thank Fabulous Frocks enough for bringing my vision to life!”

Advice for Brides

Sophie advises brides-to-be to hire a wedding planner.

“It is easy to get wrapped up in wedding planning and all of the tasks and boxes you have to check,” Sophie said. “Hire the wedding planner and try and enjoy the process and the actual wedding day as much as possible!”

She also encourages brides to remember that the day is about you and your spouse!

“Other people will have opinions about what plates to choose and what flowers to pick, but make sure that you are picking things you and your future spouse want, not what you think others will want,” she said. “My rule of thumb was to incorporate our loves and interests into the decisions we made. It made it meaningful and personal!”

The Reception

The reception was held at The Caldwell. Southern Spoon catered the meal. “It was important for us to incorporate southern cuisine into our menu as I am from Nashville and Aidan loves southern food and sweet tea!” Sophie shared. “We wanted to share that fondness, so Southern Spoon was able to curate an amazing selection of food celebrating this cuisine!”

The couple also had a grazing table at their cocktail hour. “It reflected my love for charcuterie and was a great segue to a heavier dinner from our cocktail hour!”

Publix created the cake at the reception, while Curated Events provided the rentals.

Nashville Party Authority was the DJ for the event, and Signature Transportation provided transportation. The couple hosted their rehearsal dinner at Giovanni Ristorante prior to the wedding.

The couple ended their reception with a private last dance to “All Your’n” by Tyler Childers as their guests prepared for the sendoff. “It was the perfect way to slow down the day, soak up what just happened, and have a moment just the two of us,” said Sophie.

Sophie also shared how the couple incorporated Sophie’s late grandmother’s memory into the day.

“My grandmother passed a few months before the wedding and absolutely loved my now husband Aidan,” she said. “She left a beautiful gold cigar band to Aidan and I and we used this as
my engagement band. It was a special way to incorporate her into the day.”

The couple displayed their grandparents’ wedding photos “to add to that celebration of those who came before us and those who helped form us into the people we are today!”

Aidan and Sophie honeymooned in Hawaii and visited the Big Island and Oahu! “We were able to combine our passions of hiking, cooking, and relaxing in the 10 days that we were there!” She said. “We also celebrated our first Christmas together in Oahu.”

We loved helping Sophie find her dress and were honored to be a part of her day! Congratulations to the happy couple!
