Happy Thursday! We caught up with #FabFrocksBride Mary, and her husband Alex. The two met in college through mutual friends because “they found out he was a birdwatcher and knew that I was too, so figured we’d be quick friends. One day I think it hit us both that we really liked each other.” True love birds 🙂
When we asked our real bride Mary to describe her big day for us, it sounded nothing short of amazing: “Alex and I are very nature-oriented people. Our wedding was at a magnolia garden that we’d been bird watching at many times, so the setting itself was very elegant, yet natural and whimsical. We wanted greenery and woodland vibes worked into every detail, while still feeling like a princess fairytale. It was perfect! Overall, we wanted our wedding to be an expression of us and a way for our friends and family to feel the love in every detail.”
Mary wore a beautiful, blush, aline gown by Jasmine Bridal that had embroidered lace detailing and a stunning open back. “I loved the dress from the first photo I’d seen of it. It was the gown I was most excited to try on, but I wanted to try a few others first because I had such a strong feeling it was going to be THE ONE. My mom wasn’t able to be there that day, but she could even tell through a photo that it seemed perfectly like me too. Once I put it on I immediately felt like a fairytale bride. I just KNEW it was perfect for me.”
“My husband and I did a first look and it was literally magical. SUCH a sweet and special moment. We wrote each other letters that morning and read them right before the first look so the deep emotions and overwhelming love was just incomparable. He was crying and I couldn’t stop smiling! The moment was quiet and beautiful and I’ll treasure it forever.”
“Don’t let anyone tell you what you should or shouldn’t do on your wedding day! It’s about you and your husband-to-be. I went barefoot and wore a flower anklet and LOVED how little choices like that made me feel just purely like myself all day. We also served chicken and waffles because it’s our favorite food, even though people said it wasn’t suitable for a fancy party (btw, who cares!?) It was perfect. The whole day just felt like an extension of ourselves and our love. Don’t let other people’s expectations rob you of that feeling!”
“My mom is chronically ill and couldn’t be there so my “something borrowed” was a locket of hers that had little shells and beach treasures we’d collected on family trips together. That really made it feel like she was there in spirit. We visited her right before the ceremony so she could see us on the wedding day and witness a little mini-ceremony where we signed the marriage license. It’s something we all cherish deeply. A few other random details: The knife we used to cut our cake was monogrammed with an “M” and was originally used at my grandparents’ wedding, and it was perfect because my new last name is “Marine!” We had wooden carvings of our favorite birds as part of our cake topper. Alex’s cufflinks had the lyrics to one of our favorite songs, which he had put on a mix CD for me early in our relationship. We played my mom and stepdad’s wedding song during our reception to honor them.”
