A few weeks ago our sweet friend Laura K. Allen contacted us about a styled shoot she was envisioning- Southern sophistication, a magnolia lined backdrop, Pantone’s color of the year marsala, and an edgy twist, all married together. Obviously, we wanted to take part, and we are absolutely giddy with the end results!
What was your inspiration for this shoot?
My inspiration stemmed from seeing Fabulous Frocks’ post showcasing the Mercer Amsale gown! It was so beautiful and elegant- I had to photograph it! Based on this gown, I decided to create this styled shoot around the theme “southern elegance” that included magnolia trees and PantONE’s color of the year- Marsala! I came across Brendi K. Seiner’s (model) profile of facebook and knew she would be the perfect model. She’s so strikingly beautiful and her edginess provided the perfect amount of contrast to the theme to really make this shoot stand out.
Where did the shoot take place? Why did you pick that location?
The shoot took place in downtown Nashville at the War Memorial Plaza. The plaza is lined with magnolia trees, and to our surprise- the cherry blossoms were in bloom as well!
Tell us about the different components you incorporated into this shoot.
I’m fascinated by bridal headpieces and hats. I constructed the hat by sewing together a tulle fabric flower and hot-gluing magnolia leaves and fake feather roses (purchased from JoAnn’s Fabrics!) to a piece of felt, which I ~so gracefully~ attached to the hat by safety pins! I also made the veil by hand stitching some lace onto a piece of flowy chiffon-like fabric. The bouquet was provided by Rachael Ann’s Events and Florals. I asked her to create a bouquet that included magnolia leaves and marsala-colored flowers in it. She did a great job!
Do you have a favorite shot?
I love so many of them!!! How about a top 3? 4378, 4422, and 4603…. But it was quite painful to choose. 😉
