Real Bride: Zoe’s Rustic and Elegant Summer Wedding

February 2, 2024

Hi Brides! We love catching up with our Fab Frocks Brides to hear all about their special days! Today we are excited to share details from Zoe’s rustic and elegant summer wedding!

The Details

The wedding was held at Camp Leatherwood in White Bluff, TN in mid August. The groom, Davis, grew up going to church camp at the venue!

The ceremony and reception were held in the dining lodge at the camp. “I wanted the wedding to have a rustic and elegant look to it,” Zoe shared. “The dining lodge was a blank slate to turn into exactly what I was wanting.”

Dusty rose and sage green were the wedding colors. The bridesmaids wore sage green dresses, while the groomsmen wore sage green suspenders with white shirts, khakis and brown shoes. Meanwhile, blush and white complemented touches of greenery in Zoe’s bouquet.

Petals on the Bluff provided the floral arrangements. “Lexi did an amazing job creating all the bouquets, the mantle piece and arch piece!” Zoe said.

Briana Owen photographed the day, while Luke of Luke Metzger Visuals was the videographer. “Briana did an AMAZING job photographing the day and Luke was just the best at capturing all the little moments on video,” Zoe shared. “I’ve known Luke for years and I knew I HAD to have him as my videographer when I got married.”

Family members decorated the bunkhouse where Zoe and the bridesmaids stayed the night before the wedding.

The ceremony and reception were held indoors while most of the photos were done outside. “It was a race against the rain to get as many family and bridal party pictures done before it started pouring,” Zoe recalled. “Overall the wedding was just perfect down to every last detail!”

The Dress

When reflecting on what she was looking for in a wedding dress, Zoe shared that she knew she wanted an A-line. “I was looking for in a wedding dress with long sleeves, lace, and some fluff in the skirt, but I knew I didn’t want a ballgown,” she said. “I wanted something that wouldn’t swallow me and would help show a little bit of shape to my body. Ultimately something I felt beautiful in,” she continued. She shared with Rachel, her consultant, that she was looking for a whimsical and romantic gown for the rustic and elegant summer wedding.

Zoe shared that she was nervous about trying on dresses when she started the process. “Honestly, I was afraid I wouldn’t find anything I loved or that I wouldn’t be able to get alterations done in enough time,” she said. She tried on a few gowns at a shop but didn’t love any of them. Then, she came to Fabulous Frocks.

“When I walked in to my appointment at Fabulous Frocks and met Rachel, I knew I was in good hands. I told Rachel what I was looking for in a dress and she pulled a few she thought fit my vision and a couple that were a little bit different than what I thought I was wanting.”

Saying “YES” to the Dress!

Zoe tried on a few dresses before she tried on the one. “When I tried on my dress and saw myself in it, I felt so comfortable and I felt beautiful,” she recalled. “It also fit like a glove already, which made me love it even more.”

Zoe’s entourage confirmed how she felt in the dress. When she came out in the gown, everyone could tell how comfortable and beautiful she felt.

Although she was fairly sure that she had found the one, Zoe tried on a couple other contenders one more time to make sure. “None of the others made me feel the way I felt in my dress,” she said. “They were beautiful, but they weren’t me, and that was the most important thing.”

Zoe said yes to an A-line by Chic Nostalgia. It featured 3D appliqués and off the shoulder puff sleeves. She paired the gown with a dainty pearl veil from Sara Gabriel.

Advice to Brides to Be

In reflecting on what advice she would give to future brides, Zoe advised to remember what the day is all about.

“It’s your wedding, and at the end of the day you’ll be married to your best friend and starting an amazing new chapter of life with that person,” she said. “Don’t let the stress of planning and the opinions of others ruin the excitement you should have.”

Zoe also shared that having a day of coordinator for the wedding was super helpful to ensure everything went according to plan.

“Make the day everything you imagine and don’t let anyone ruin it for you!” Zoe said.

The Wedding

Both the ceremony and reception were held at the dining lodge at the venue. “All of our families and a bunch of friends were so helpful in getting everything set up for us,” Zoe said.

Tennyson Magness, a family friend of the couple, made a carrot cake for the reception. She previously had a cake decorating business! Meanwhile, cupcakes were made by Treats on the Terrace.

The food for the reception was catered by Graze Craze. Zoe raved about the charcuterie boards they provided for the reception. “It was a big hit with all our guests!”

Zoe also shared that her favorite part of the wedding day was the couple’s first look. “Just being able to take that time before the ceremony to see each other and talk and just be together for a few minutes made me feel so much calmer,” she said. “It’s a very intimate moment and it was just so special to have that time alone.”

Another part of the day that Zoe was super excited about was the reception exit. She knew she wanted to do something unique as she and Davis exited the festivities.

“I had found these fake flower petals and I thought that was the coolest idea,” she said. “We bought some paper cones and filled the cones with the flower petals. The cones got passed out to the guests who were still there when we left and we were showered in flower petals as we left the reception.”

The couple honeymooned in Gatlinburg, Tennessee! “I had been dying to go on some rollercoasters and we got tickets to go to Dollywood,” she said. “We stayed in the most darling little cabin up in the mountains. I actually didn’t know where we were staying until we were on the road to Gatlinburg after the wedding, so that was a fun little surprise.”

The couple spent 3 days in east Tennessee. “We went on just about every ride in Dollywood and then came home to just enjoy setting up our house together before we both went back to work,” she said.

We were so happy to be a part of Zoe’s rustic and elegant summer wedding! Congratulations to the happy couple!
